Happy Poetry Friday! It's great to be back in the round-up with friends this week! Rebecca is hosting this week at her space, Sloth Reads. Be sure to drop in there!

I just love the merry merry month of May! There is much to notice and observe. Birds and bugs fill the air. There's a sense of calmness everywhere! This marvelous month has me singing and wanting to write tons of rhyming poems. I came up with this little rhyming poem while I was lying lazily on a blanket in my yard last weekend. I was enjoying a long overdue rest when I noticed all the winged creatures of the air busy in flight. I thought of how wonderful it must feel to stretch your wings and go. I wish you many more May days filled with rest and times of giddy-up and go. Happy May days everyone!

Invitation to Write:

It's fun to play with rhyming poems! Sometimes when I'm writing a poem and get stuck, I pick a word or two from my poem and make a list of rhyming words. This often helps me get going again so I can generate more ideas for my poem. It can even surprise me by offering a new direction for my poem entirely. So whenever you're stuck, you might try some rhyming word fun!

I love your May Days poem. All I have been seeing lately is the crazy lovebugs--they're pretty bad this year in FL. I'm also raising some monarch caterpillars right now. Hopefully they'll survive--the last batch all got eaten by the birds! Thank you for sharing your poem!

What a lovely May poem, Kiesha! I often think of winged creatures like you, "... how wonderful it must feel to stretch your wings and go." I think we need more weekend relaxation tme like you described.

Lovely, fanciful poem Kiesha, I'd like to find some wings and join the flight, thanks!

No hummingbirds yet, but yes, bee and birds and I saw my first butterfly yesterday. Your poem made me want to sing it, and I can imagine walking through May, skipping a bit, happy it's hear! Love this image, Kiesha!

Your May poem is such a celebration! I want to join right in and either flit and fly away or sit and dream awhile.

May is absolutely one of my favourite months, too - winter is finally, finally, FINALLY behind us, and sunshine, blue skies, green grass and warm days lie ahead!!

Oh, how fun! You capture the bouncy, giddy feeling of the weather finally turning. I love May's balminess...short sleeves and slides are my goal for most days. Happy May to you! I do love a poem that starts with Lovebugs.

May is my favorite month! I love the trees flowering, the cool, sunny days and the dawdling and lingering. Such a great poem. :-)

Hi, Kiesha--we both made something of May this week! I like how you give the bugs credit and grace instead of complaining about them. Wishing you more merry May!

I like the butterflies, but the black flies, not so much! In the rare times I write rhyming poems, my favorite tool is www.rhymer.com .

Kiesha, I have never seen a hummingbird so I always love reading about that bird. Diane's advice about using the rhyming site is a good one. I am going to bookmark that one, too. I am collecting digital inspirations for my spring gallery this week. I look forward to receiving one or more from you.
