Happy Poetry Friday! Thanks so much for visiting the ridge. Be sure to head over to Dani's space HERE! You are sure to find poetry delights waiting for you!

When I think about endurance, I think of a long distance runner. I picture the runner forging forward and getting stronger with each mile. There is pain. There is exhaustion. And despite all this, the runner surges forward. The runner knows something about what lies ahead. That's why the runner pushes past the pain and past the exhaustion. The runner knows that through endurance, there is triumph. The runner knows something else, too. At the end of the run, there is fulfillment in the journey.

Picturing the endurance of the runner, gives me hope. Whenever I feel like giving up, I think of the runner. I think of the courage and strength it takes to keep going. There must be many times the runner feels like stopping, but the runner understands what it means to endure. It's not easy, but it's necessary. I remind myself of this daily. I must endure to succeed. This poem is a reflection of what endurance means to me. It takes courage and strength to reach the finish line. When we do, we realize the true test was not the race but rather our endurance to push through our doubt along the way. The result, no matter what it is, changes us in unmistakable ways. In the end, we are better equipped to endure the next race.

Listen to my Poem-

Invitation to Write:

No matter what race you endure, remember that there is courage and strength with each step you take. Writing about times or situations that have tested your endurance can help you reflect and move forward. Take some time to jot down what endurance means to you. How have the things you've endured changed you or grown you?

A time of endurance....most certainly has to be the last few weeks of a school year. Once the testing begins, the joy of learning literally ceases. The behavior shows how tired students are of being told what to do and what not to do. Teachers are tired of the thanklessness they encounter. It's only the motion of keeping at it, trying again the next day, honoring the routine that gets some of us through. But, this weekend we get an extra day of rest. I will enjoy that!

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith

Surviving to the end of the school year is indeed a test of endurance. Life throws so many opportunities to test our mettle. Before I had to deal with it, I never imagined I could aid my mother in the last few years of her life, and yet when she needed myself and my siblings, we all stepped up to the plate to help get her through the hardest years of her life.

Kiesha,
Your thoughts are strong on endurance, Sustaining and replenishing are important tasks along the way. When reading your poem, I started thinking of my exercise component of today: yoga and then, a family walk at the ocean boardwalk. While exhausted from pushing myself at yoga, I kept thinking how hard it was to finish my walk but I did. It was the thought of enduring that made a difference. The ocean was there cheering me on. Thanks for sharing your poem with us.I hope you read my invitation that I finally submitted to Dani at the very end of the PF day yesterday.

YES! to endurance, but an equal YES (and a sigh of relief) to the moment of letting go, when letting go is the right thing to do.

I am currently in the middle of watching "Unbroken" which epitomizes endurance at the ultimate level. I kept thinking about it as I read your post and poem. Thank you for sharing today.

What a lovely comparison between yourself and winecup flowers, opening and closing, awaiting the sun and rain. Enduring, beautifully.

"Endurance" provides a well for us to constantly dip into, it's always waiting filled with many emotions. Thanks for your moving metaphorical poem on "Endurance" Kiesha.
