Well, after many months of mild weather, it seems that winter has finally come to us here on the ridge. Like my Dragonfly Tree here in this photo, I can recall many times I have walked the earth-warm fields just waiting for winter to peel back the curtain and take center stage. I have often imagined winter itself as an ancient artist; one who could paint the most brilliant masterpiece from any stark-white canvas. The poem I am sharing today is my attempt to give praise to this magestic season and to its creator, whose work is never done. Invitation to Write:
Writers will often put themselves in someone else's shoes in search of meaning and perspective. Try taking on the perspective and voice of someone or something else. Imagine what they might say and think. There are all sorts of paths your writing will lead you to!

The weather wizards are forecasting an unusually cold and blustery winter this year in my neck of the woods - I fear that the artist will be painting his snowy colours throughout our area as well!

Gorgeous poem, Keisha! We have just cooled off here in the desert in recent weeks - thank goodness! Love your description of the impending season, "waiting for winter to peel back the curtain and take center stage". =)

"Then he'll take up the brush, and walk the wood". What an image to take with us as the cold comes, and it is! My coats have been worn more these past few days. Our season this year is beautifully shown, Kiesha.

You captured that waiting time when the whole world knows Winter is coming, but he's not here yet, he's not here yet...here he is!

I love your analogy of a painter and his canvas. At times your old man seemed like St. Nick or the Big Man himself. It might snow here next week, and we are busy bagging leaves and cleaning out the garage in preparation. December is always a month of insane busy-ness for me. My to-do list is endless. And I'm not the only one. I see tired, stressed faces out there at the grocery store on Saturday afternoons. Yet, I have such fun waiting for the first snow. :-)

Keisha, I read this a couple of times. Always, when I love a poem, I read too fast. I just want to gulp it. But, I read again. The landscape stretched like a canvas....wow. Yes, it is. Isn't it? Holding a sturdy oak cane....you nudge something in me.

This is wonderful, Kiesha. Love your personification of Old Man Winter.
